AMETHYST -- Amethyst is one of the best healing stones/crystals around and is good on almost all problems. Works with the Crown
Chakra for bringing in one's higher intuition as well as with balancing the left and right sides of the brain. It is a soothing stone and is said to help with nervous conditions; insomnia; dreams; helping to release addictions; and spiritual enlightenment. One gemstone lore associated with the amethyst is that it will help keep fleas from animals if placed in their water dish…(of course one can hope they don't decide to try and eat them or play with them!) I have a friend who insists this works for her cats.

AQUAMARINE -- This is a variety of
Beryl. As is obvious with the name, it is associated with the water and all elements of the ocean. It is said to calm the nerves; reduce fluid retention; strengthen kidneys, liver, and spleen; purifies the body; enhances clarity of mind; aids in creative self-expression; aids with physical/ emotional. mental balancing ; helps banish fears and phobias; is excellent for meditation, inspiration, peace, calmness, and love. This stone has several shading variations from the namesake aquamarine blue to a greenish blue and is not always the transparent gem quality but it works well no matter what the color or the quality of the stone/ crystal. This is a very peaceful and calming stone, working with the throat chakra but also working with the feminine side of one's character to allow a better flow of emotions and energy.

BLOODSTONE -- Bloodstone is a form of Jasper. It is normally a mid to deep green with blood red specks or splatters throughout the stone and may even have streaks of ochre included. Bloodstone is a good balancer and is said to help with problems concerning the blood and the liver…(thus the colors of red and ochre with the green as the healing center). It is also said to help with stopping bleeding and is generally good for a whole body cleansing. A friend and mentor of mine always has his clients tape a bloodstone cabochon to their lower back for back pain/problems with a pretty good success rate last I had checked. This isn't to replace traditional medical treatments, it is just to help keep one going until treatment is available…(none of the suggested stone healing usages are to be used alone but in conjunction with traditional methods to help speed them along). Emotionally, Bloodstone is said to help one deal with and remove old anger. One slight warning on this part…I have a friend who stays away from carrying bloodstone because it tends to intensify her anger and even mood swings at inappropriate times…perhaps this is the way it helps one face and deal with that old anger, by bringing it to the surface to be faced and conquered. Gemstone lore associated with the Bloodstone is that the red speckles or splatters throughout the stone are drops of blood from Jesus Christ as He was being crucified.

CARNELIAN -- This is a variety of Chalcedony which, in turn, is a form of Agate. It is a very highly evolved mineral healer. It is said to energize the blood; aid the kidneys, lungs, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, and tissue regeneration. Also said to vitalize the physical/ emotional/ mental bodies while aligning the physical and etheric bodies: enhances attunement with the inner self; facilitates concentration; and opens the heart. This is a warm, social and joyous stone working with the root and the sacral chakras. This is also said to help with self-esteem, fears, angers, hidden emotions and sexual problems. It is often carried as a talisman stone.
~~~~~~~~~~~
CHRYSOCOLLA -- Balances the heart center to bring stability and emotional awareness. It focuses universal love energies into healing. It is a great peaceful and calming stone with its blue to blue-green coloring. Great for those working with computers as well as a good feminine stone, working with the voice, throat, ears and third eye. This particular stone is often found with Malachite and will have the additional properties of helping with the lung conditions (asthma and bronchial conditions) while helping to neutralize the effects of tobacco smoking.
DIAMOND -- Ah yes…the Diamond…the stone said to be a girl's best friend…well…I have a differing opinion on that one. Almost everyone has seen a diamond. It's one of the most sought after gems stones around and one of the priciest for really good specimens. It has been the traditional engagement ring stone for who knows how long because it signifies loyalty, faithfulness, and steadfastness in relationships and commitments. It is said to help one be the best one can be. It is also the elephant of the crystal world…it never forgets anything it has experienced…which is one reason people should be cautious when buying estate jewelry or pawned engagement/wedding rings…the diamonds store the bad as well as the good and if there was a lot of problems or anger associated with the former owner, that will stay with the stone and influence the next owner. Remember the 'curse' which is legendary to the Hope Diamond? Diamonds are one of the hardest minerals around so wouldn't it be logical that it would be hard to get rid of bad vibrations and memories which had been implanted through wearing or handling of the piece? One may be able to clear some of the memories but there will always be the core remembrance somewhere deep within awaiting to be awoken by a similar event. Diamonds are also used in industry for cutting, lasers, and more.
(I am not overly partial to diamonds, except Herkimer Diamonds which are an entirely different class so I do not have any pictures for the Diamond. I may add pictures of Herkimer Diamonds at a later date when I get into their particular uses and lore.)
EMERALD -- The Emerald is a stone of the heart chakra, opening one to more love and healing past hurts . It is also a stone to work out things with father figures…whether your actual father or someone who has felt like a father to you. It also helps when there is no father figure present. The Emerald is also a stone which helps one to realize prosperity and helps with dream work/ meditation. It deepens spirituality and consciousness. A wonderful all around healing stone.
FIRE OPAL -- There are many types of Opal. All are good for emotional healing and helping one to look within. The Fire Opal is often listed as a Mexican Fire Opal and contains a brilliant fiery array of red, yellows, greens and oranges within a brownish stone. It consists of many layers within the stone and when polished, the entire fire can be lost by just a touch too much polishing. It is mostly a fragile stone because of the thin layers which is what prompted the lore about it being 'bad luck' to wear the opal if it wasn't your birthstone. It generally needs moisture to keep it from drying out and works very well with the oils from wearing close to the body…very similar to pearls being enhanced by wearing on the skin. Most of the fiery specimens used in jewelry today are called doublets or triplets which means they are layered between or under another stone, usually quartz for over the top and sometimes
onyx beneath it, especially if they want a black background to bring out a certain color within the opal. This makes them more stable as a triplet and less likely to crack if dried out. Some opals do have the color without as much instability and the Mexican Fire Opal one of them.
JASPER -- Jaspers come in many different colors and patterns, each with their own specific traits and areas of healing. Most are very protective and will work with their corresponding chakra by the color. A particular jasper sacred to the Native American Indians is the
Red Jasper. Bloodstone is a form of Jasper. The Jaspers, besides protection help with the recalibration and balancing of the chakras as well as healing. With the Jaspers, use your own intuition as to which is right for you or which is needed at any particular time. Said to strengthen the liver, gallbladder, and bladder. Powerful healer with the main impact on the physical body. Represents the earth elements.
SAPPHIRE -- Sapphires come in a wide range of colors beyond the traditional blue, including greens, whites, yellows, peach, orange and clear. They are a good antidepressant for the body, mind and spirit. Said to help digest heavy foods, aid the heart, kidneys, and pituitary gland functions. It also helps to enhance creativity by releasing blockages holding back talents. White sapphire is the one which helped me to release the blocks I had about wire-wrapping many years ago. The white sapphires I worked with were manmade ones which were manufactured for use in science labs because of the hardness of the substance.
Manmade stones may not have quite the same energies as those found in nature but they do possess many of the same attributes…I just found that they needed frequent rest and recharge periods as well as cleansing but they worked just as well as natural ones. So don't be too quick to condemn manufactured pieces, simply go with what you are drawn to and can afford.
