Queer Things Print E-mail

Very, very queer things have been happening to me
    In some of the places where I've been.
I went to the pillar-box this morning with a letter
    And a hand came out and took it in.BirchInWinter

When I got home again, I thought I'd have
    A glass of steady myself;
And I take my bible oath, but that bottle and glass
    Came a-hopping down off the shelf.

No, no I says, I'd better take no spirits,
    And I sat down to have a cup of tea;
And blowed if my old pair of carpet-slippers
    Didn't walk across the carpet to me!

So I took my newspaper and went into the park,
    And looked round to see no one was near,
When a voice right out of the middle of the paper
    Started reading the news bold and clear!

Well, I guess there's some magician out to help me,
    So perhaps there's no need for alarm;
And if I manage not to anger him,
    Why should he do me any harm?

ColumbineI think I should wait some night in an enchanted forest
with tall dim hemlocks and moss-covered branches,
And quiet, shadowy aisles between the tall blue-lichened trees;
With low shrubs forming grotesque outlines in the moonlight,
And the ground covered with a thick carpet of pine needles
O that my footselps made no sound,--
skullThey would not be afraid to glide silently from thier hiding places
To the white patch of moonlight on the pine needles,
And dance to the moon and thge stars and the wind.

Thier arms would gleam white in the moonlight
And a thousand dewdrops sparkle in the dimness of thier hair;
But I should not dare to look at thier widly beautiful faces.

GREETINGS...

HELLO...

HOW YA DOIN'?

Sorry I haven't updated my space for a while but I have had so much happening that time just slipped away. (Not to mention the loss of two computers and the ultra kind gift of my webmaster to enable me to even be on-line).

I am also working full time and have not been up to working on-line as much as I used to be able to do. I am hoping that will be changing to at least be able to do updates and mention new items I am working to finish before the fall shows.

I do want to mention my Rescue/Recycle/ Rebirth jewelry...items which lay broken in jewely boxes and bags. I've repaired or redone quite a few at this point and will either post them here on on Etsy.com.

New items will be including staffs/walking sticks and wands will be available for the Universal Light Expo in Columbus, Ohio on the second weekend of October 8-9 of 2011. More information about that later.

Blessing to all.

Check back soon.

I specialize in heirloom/open pollinated, interesting-unusual, and ceremonial/sacred seeds and plants. If you'd like to talk about plants and seeds, please feel free to call or email anytime.
One of my favorite plants to grow, and very popular with my customers, is WHITE SAGE (Salvia apiana). White Sage has a very powerful presence in the garden. It is a traditional Native American sacred plant with beautiful green-grey foliage that is used for ritual and ceremony. The leaves are dried and used to smudge a whole house, a room, a whole area, or even yourself. Smudging with White Sage clears the energy, it chases the negative feeling away and allows a more relaxed, happy energy to take its place. It can even act as an ice-breaker in a group, somehow breaking down barriers between people. Please consider a white sage plant or a packet of seeds.
I also sell and grow heirloom tomato plants and seeds. What are heirloom seeds? They are seeds that have been handed down from generation to generation; the old-fashioned, standard flowers, tomatoes, and vegetables people ate before hybrids came along. When you harvest seeds from an heirloom, you will get the exact same plant. With hybrid seeds, you don't know what you'll get. I saved the seeds from a hybrid petunia once, and what I got the following spring did not even resemble a petunia. Heirloom tomatoes are the best-tasting because they are the original tomatoes, not the hybrids from the grocery store. Usually you're not sure what those taste like (cardboard?).
All seed packets are $2.00 each, unless otherwise noted. Plants prices are $3.00 to $6.00

I have these heirloom tomato seeds (25 per packet) for $2 each. Plants available in mid-May thru June:
RAINBOW BEEFSTEAK MIX - a mix of red, orange, pink, green, yellow and purple heirloom tomatoes; all very delicious and unique.
MEXICO MIDGET - the best tasting and smallest cherry anywhere, prolific, eat right off the plant.
AMISH BRANDYWINE - the most well-known heirloom tomato and said to be the best tasting of any; a large dark pink variety.
BOX CAR WILLIE - a medium size perfectly round and red tomato, very delicious; I love the name!
ARKANSAS TRAVELER - an heirloom from the Ozark Mountains, very tasty, very productive plants
CHEROKEE PURPLE - this is an old heirloom from the Cherokee tribe; it's a large, juicy, good-tasting purplish/red tomato, very popular.

For 2010 I am also featuring "Sacred Earth's Heirloom Veggie Seed Collection". This collection of 7 heirloom vegetable seed varieties is $12. You can also buy them individually for $2 packet. All of these seeds are old-fashioned heirloom types. This is a great collection for the home gardener. This collection contains:

OLD HOMESTEAD POLE BEANS
BLACK-SEEDED SIMPSON LETTUCE
GREEN ARROW PEAS
LONG STANDING SPINACH
BLUE HUBBARD SQUASH
GOLDEN BANTAM CORN
ARKANSAS TRAVELER TOMATO

MULLEIN - a great smokeable, medicinal plant; Mullein is a hardy biennial plant that was traditionally used by Native Americans for dry coughs, sinus congestion, middle ear infections, and asthma. The leaves taken from the basal rosettes were dried and smoked to halt an asthmatic attack because it causes a relaxation of the respiratory muscles. The leaves can be dried for tea or steeped in brandy or vodka to make a tincture for treating dry coughs or really horrible coughs. The flowers, when infused with garlic and olive oil, were used as ear drops to relieve pain and heal middle ear infections. Making a steam from fresh Mullein leaves was also used to break up and clear sinus congestion...pick one small leaf from the middle of the rosette, tear it up, and simmer it in a covered pot for a few minutes. Bring it to a boil and remove it from the heat, then inhale the steam with a towel over your head. The dried, crumbled up leaves can also be mixed with other herbs for smoking, either as a tobacco substitute or used with tobacco in ceremony. The dried leaves can also be used for smudging. (100)

These seeds will produce beautiful plants with purple, half-inch flowers from June to September, then very attractive and bright red berries from August to October. The leaves, roots, and berries of this plant are all edible. The berries, also known as "Goji berries" are highly valued in Chinese medicine due to their many, many health benefits, including anti-oxidant properties, improving the complexion, eyesight, and sexual health; as well as prolonging life in general. The young leaves are edible and can be eaten in salads or used for flavoring with rice. A tea may also be made from the leaves. The plant itself forms a shrub that can grow to 12 feet high and has bright green oval-shaped leaves. It is a hardy perennial in the north. (50)
EVENING PRIMROSE - this is an amazing plant...it's a hardy bienniel plant with a very beautiful yellow flower in late summer. It's native to the United States. All parts of this plant are edible and Native American tribes used it for food and medicinal purposes. The roots were boiled and eaten like potatoes, the young leaves were cooked and served as greens, and the shoots were eaten raw. A poultice was made from the plant and used for bruises and the roots were chewed and rubbed onto the muscles to improve strength. This plant is cultivated world-wide for its well-known GLA oil. The seeds are eaten by many types of birds and the flower draws hummingbirds. (100)

Welcome to the new home of American Metaphysics – GreatConjunction.org!

Four years ago I started a small site called OhioMetaphysics.org, very quickly I realized I hadn't thought big enough.  Within a year AmericanMetaphysics.org was born… and then I got a member in Australia.  It's taken me a wile to get here, but I feel like this is the perfect new home for us.  We have members from all over the world already and I want this site to have no nation boundaries or territories.  We are all divine children of spirit and we should come together in a Great Conjunction!

quincenewnadoldOur new site is stronger, more robust and flexible and should hold us in good stead over the coming years.  As always, if you have features or ideas you want to see here let me know or feel free to contribute your ideas and thoughts.  From its inception this site has always been about community.  I can't wait to see what you do with the place.

A few years ago I was struggling with my personal business, creating this site and exploring this world of psychic fairs and events, and I had a dream – the last bit still sticks with me.  In the dream I was complaining about what was going on with my life and how slowly business was progressing and the old woman I was speaking to said, "Don't you know?  As the Earth grows in fecundity, so too shall your business."  I woke up, looked up fecundity, and learned to look forward to this time of year.Quince Leaf Buds

There is so much new energy rising from the Earth right now.  The ice melts, even for just a day, and new growth begins springing to life.  Each day as I walk outside I see new signs of spring.  Swelling buds, flower shoots and the greening of the grass all contribute to the energy of life, of fecundity, that is growing stronger every day.

I see that new growth here as well.  The energy of new events and classes, the excitement over changing attitudes around the world and the comforting knowledge that as people loose faith in failing institutions, greed and corruption they turn to the deep spiritual truths we explore here.

I hope that more people turn away from greed and rampant consumerism.  I have faith that this is all part of a larger plan.  I know that we are all together on this journey and I am glad that you are here with me.
snowdrops
So, as the Earth continues to grow in fecundity, I know you and I and GreatConjunction.org will continue to grow as well.

On a practical note, all your old logins and passwords should still work.  Most of your old links will work as well, but you may get the occasional error message.  Let me know and I will try to fix any problems that crop up.

Thanks,
John Thornton, GreatConjunction.org

Happy Holidays! Print E-mail
Written By John Thornton
Thursday, 18 December 2008 18:54

Happy Holidays: Yule, Christmas, Hanukkah, Winter Solstice, Kwanzaa, Saturnalia, Gurachnar's Ascension, and other Assorted Winter Holidays!

Gifted - John Thornton

"On the second day of Christmas I sent my true love back, a nasty little letter and a partridge in a pear tree." – Hogfather, Terry Pratchett

Not feeling it this year, kids, and I finally figured out why. This is the one month of the year when I don’t really get to do most of the things I love. I love to give readings, teach, lecture, garden, cook and read. I really love my work, and I get to do very little of it in December – no one is getting readings or booking classes, there are no fairs and the ground is frozen. I may as well hibernate till my birthday.

What I am doing is planning my Psychic intensive workshop in January. I am incredibly excited about this – I've really been working on this for years and it's just now that I feel ready to teach a six-week program on how to be a psychic. I have so much I want to share that the time already feels too short. We will explore psychic readings, auras, chakras, spirit guides, energy healing, ethics, and the waltz. It will be an amazing class.

Since I'm not all filled with zesty jolliness about the holidays I decided to take the easy way out for some of my gifts – I hired a psychic. Hear me out. This is the sixth time I have asked Tammie Crosby to design a gift and she always does an amazing job of working with the person's energies.

If you've been reading these newsletters for a while you know that Tammie has a wonderful talent with gems and stones. With these custom gifts she psychically picks out the perfect combination of gems and stones that will not only be beautiful and perfect for the person, but is also functional in that the stones are specifically healing for the client. She made this amazing necklace for my friend Heather, needing only her name and birth date. The stones are grounding and help her heal her 4th and 5th Glossary Link chakra energies. Really amazing work and she has always come through for me. Check her out!

Also, psychic readings make great gifts for those hard to buy for people on your list. Most psychics offer gift certificates or will make one up on the spot if they need to; we're a resourceful bunch.

I do love Christmas music. Some of it stays on my iTunes all year long and this time of year I can crank it up without getting funny looks. What are your favorite songs and are they traditional or strange and bizarre? Come on folks, lets head on over to the Forum holiday music. I'll start it off with the video for the amazing "Christmas in the Trenches" by John McCutcheon. Leaves me a sodden mass every time.

Well, I'm off to snuggle under my comforter, see you in January and have an incredible holiday season.

John Michael Thornton and talk about
